Heyyo_friday's dc5 sorta build/track/autocross and complaining+ bs thread

I hate hearing about those experiences. In my 5+ year tenure as a Honda counterman I hated a customer walking away with a bad experience.

Makes me grind my teeth just thinking about people handing out “bad service”

In my short time frame of selling parts aftermarket i did also. But you know especially at a dealership that not giving a shit or lack of communication causes I’d say 85-90% of all issue within the building. Not sure where the disconnect was in my situation

Well back to the old grindstone. Installed the new oil pump chain tensioner and clockwise motion drop in baffle.New rear main seal as well(which was the original reason i started this winter “refresh”.

Then cleaned my oil pan off and resealed it with hondabond.

Another week. Another parts order. Unfortunately not that easy lol. I needed a single cone synchro and 4.7 fd bearing in my rebuild kit. That was missed somewhere along the line. The differential also never got added to the ordered. Sooooo another week of waiting.

In the mean time on my quest to get the oil leaks under control. New vtec solenoid gasket that I’ve had for a year and never replaced for whatever reason. The old gasket was super brittle. Also a new oil pressure switch since mine appears to be liking where it comes together. Also a new A01 filter.

Rear mains are the devil, and always lead to “more work” than originally planned.

Also don’t forget the VTC filter on the front of the engine 15845-RAA-A01, will save you a headache once it’s all back together.

Ssshhh. Stop letting my car know i haven’t replaced something.

Plus my oil leak was definitely on the rear of the engine. Ill keep my eye on it for now

All my parts have finally arrived. So its time for transmission work. Debating on trying to do all the work in one day of slowly throughout the week. So far I’m doing work slowly. Decided to get the case prepped for when the diff and mainshafts are ready. New input shaft bearing and seal with countershaft bearing for a 4.7 final drive. Also 2 new axle seals which were slowly leaking.

Also cleaned up my transmission case while it was empty

If you don’t need to rush, I wouldn’t do it.

started prep on my transmission last week. don’t out do me!

I sort of have a dead line ive already blown through. Wanted it together by end of January so I can have a month or two to work out issues before a event in March. Might try and get one thing done per day this week

So. On to syncrhos finally. Didnt take many pictures. But this is the mainshaft after being refreshed and adding the tsx/8th gen 6th gear.

!
Installed the new speedo gear onto my mfactory differential.
!
Annnnddddd I found this. One tooth broken off. The teeth on both sides of this one were cracked. I was tapping it on with a brass hammer at first then using the press. I really thought the brass wouldn’t be harder than the ring gear. I was wronggggg.

So. Off to oreilys to rent a gear puller. Rigged up this contraption.

Success!

New LSD almost ready to drop in

New 4.7 final drive set

Didn’t get a picture before I dropped it in. But the new diff in its home. Taking a week off then I’ll move on the counter shaft.

Don’t worry. I haven’t forgotten to update. Just been waiting on parts. Found out the mainshaft needs to come apart again. Slightly frustrated

Did terrible at picture of my countershaft rebuild with the final drive swap. Also changed to the tsx/8th gen si 6th gear. I used a gear puller for 4th-6th. Ended up using my press for the rest.

It finally back together. Took a bit longer things to a parts screw up on both my end and the suppliers end.

But today went a bit better. I had a issue with 4th gear jamming up whenever I’d try to shift it. Took it apart and soaked the synchros overnights hoping that’d solve the issue (installed them dry first). Moved that synchro to 3rd gear on reassembly and had the same issue. Called synchrotech and spoke to David about this issue. He informed me that I probably had the synchros assembled a bit crooked. Sure enough thats what it was. Put it together correctly and it was perfectly fine. So I went ahead and started assembling.

Seeing it all assembled felt like a victory. Really motivated me to make some headway.
New oil drip rail for the trans

Trans finally assembled and sealed

My new competition clutch ultra light weight flywheel and stage 1.5 clutch. Im aware that the ultra lightweight flywheel isn’t the greatest for my setup. But it was all that was avaliable at the time. I have ran a stage 1.5 on my civic before. Absolutely loved it. Also a new pilot bushing and brand new oem flywheel bolts. I’ve had them for a year or so originally for my k24 when I had my civic. Its still sitting on my engine stand collecting dust so I used them for my rsx. Its not necessary but im fairly sure they’ve been reused twice that I’m aware of.

Also for my pat on the back moment. New throwout bearing and boot since my original one was torn
