My ‘00 DC4 Build/Journey - 9 Years in the Making

Once we got those pieces painted, I got back to work on making the car run and drive so I could get my dyno tune scheduled. I wanted to get all the underdash assembly finished before I put the doors back on just to make it easier to work in the car.

I did run into an issue where I left the fuel tank harness on my tank that I threw away and dint have a connector to hook up to the fuel pump. I was able to find a used sun harness on eBay with just the fuel pump and sending unit connections and found a electrical supply shop with the other half of the connector from my chassis harness.

Next up was getting the axles in, fresh fluids in everything and finishing up conversion wiring (making everything plug and play) and power wiring. I ordered a wireworx charge harness kit but the lengths didn’t work (even after I specified everything) so I went and made my own. Wish I would have just done that to start.

After all this, we hung all the freshly painted panels on the car, then wet sanded and polished them.

Once it hit that the car was extremely close to running, I booked my dyno tune and ordered some tires for the wheels I’d been storing for years.

Great work so far. Keep it pushing

I apologize for the lack of updates lately. I ran into some issues that I’ll get into in the future that I dealt with without keeping up to date on this. Let’s try and get this back on track!

Brought the wheels back to the shop and got them on the car for the first time. Super happy with the color against the red!

Next up was finishing the charge harness. I bought some but they weren’t made long enough for how I had ran everything and my bumper being in the front bumper. So I went to the auto parts store, bought some battery cable and ring ends and made all my own. Wish I would have saved my money and did this from the beginning.

Once everything was ready, I went and made sure I was priming the fuel pump, which it was.

Then came more work towards getting the first start. I had pulled the underdash harness apart and removed everything I wasn’t going to use. In my ignorance, I also removed the connector to the clutch pedal for the neutral safety switch (the plug is yellow and I assumed it was something to do with the SRS system). So I had to make up a jumper and run that direct to ground. Sure enough the car turned over after that.

Next up I disconnected all the coil packs and fuel pump so I could turn the motor over for a bit to get oil everywhere it needed to be. Since I had switched to a type S oil pump on this motor, I also hooked up a temporary oil pressure gauge to verify I had good pressure at startup. Sure enough, oil pressure was good!

Here I hooked up the kmanager to the ECU to watch everything as I first ran the motor. My tuner also emailed me a base map for the car to start before I brought it in for a tune.

Once I got the coolant burped (was kind of a pain with this motor) I brought the car out of the lift bay and just wiped everything down after weeks of collecting dust in the shop. I literally got this car started and ready to go 3 days before my tune date, and never drove the car until I drove it on to the trailer to take it to the tuner.

All packed up and ready to go! Off to Slowmotion Motorsports for the dyno tune!
